This week was my final week at my work placement.
Thursday required me to go round the city centre pushing leaflets for saturdays event. I also got to sit the the events manager and he told me the plan for saturday night, the entertainment being used and how the main room in the nightclub was goin to be dressed, there was already a team at work dressing the room ready for saturday.
Friday i covered reception for an hour and sent out some tickets for people requested for next week. Then i sat with the events manager while he told me the plans for the next few weeks at the club and how today he was going out visting media offices with VIP invatations for saturday. I was then told a few places of where to go and take some myself around the city centre. I got back to the club for a quick chat with the general managers, i asked him questions that would help me with my essay for this module and he told me a few palns he had for the club.
I was also this week introduced to the area manager.
The club were very postive with my work with them and said if i needed any help with the future or wanted to go back for experience then they would be happy to help.
I have enjoyed my time at the club as it lets me see how a big organisation works behind the scenes and has given me a different outlook on the nightclub industry

Week 4
@ 2007-04-11 – 18:31:30
This week has been another interesting and different week at the club.
Thursday i was told about new ideas to bring more vistors into the venue on nights that werent so popular, 1 idea is everybody who is involved in the emergancy services and so on.
So on thursday i was required to research on the net numbers and addresses for hospitals, ambulances, dentist, highway services, nursing homes and add them to the databased which already contained police and fire services.
After doing this research i was sent around town to do a final leaflet push for our easter sunday event.
Friday i was required to go around the services i reserached in the nhs and get social sectarys/human resource teams names/numbers/emails, so if this became popular we could send information out to them. I was also told too look for any advertising space in the building.
This proved hard as i only new where a few places were with not being from leeds myself, so i went to the hospital for some info and a wonder, i also spoke to the shop owner there to see if he could give out information if this was to go ahead. I also headed up to the dentist building but this was shut due to easter.
So i called the police station who managed to give me a name for there social secretary, i also called the fire station but they lacked info as it was bank holiday.
Sunday night i was sent out PR-in for tonights event with one of the management team, town was very quite but there was also a massive competing monthly event on at the corn exchange and everyone seemed to be heading for there. So me, another girl and the manager for that night headed up for headingly as we heard through the grapevine it was busy, but by the time we got there there was not many people about as we would of liked. We did a quick round of the city centre again to check out the competition then headed back to the club.
This week i have learnt about the different markets of people that we could attract to the venue, i have also learnt how hard it is when you have major competition close by and how much you must plan for this, even then it is not guaranteed that you will get the numbers expected in your venue that night. -
Week 3
@ 2007-04-01 – 20:25:27
This week was a busy and interesting week at the nightclub.
The last saturday of every month is home to the clubs 'Ultimate Night Out', this events get everyone including staff excited.
Thursday afternoon i was given a task, to phone all media i could think of in leeds and invite them on our guestlist for saturday. This interested me as it was very different to the things i was had been doing over the past few weeks, it also learnt me what media coverage there is around leeds this inluding me contacting bbc, itv, yorkshire post, numerous radio stations and magazines in leeds. A dvd of last months event was also sent to a certain mr moyles. I was then required to send VIP invatations out to those interested via email. After this i was shown the plan of action for saturday night.
Friday i covered reception for a few hours and filled out complementory passes for companies registered with us as these needed to be sent out by monday. I was then taken to the ballroom where the team were getting it ready for saturday night and was told how they were doing it, why, what effect they would hope to gain from it, where they got the materials from (banner material, drapes, frames, projectors) and how they planned to hide it from friday nights customers.
I then had to do general duties which included going to the post office and pushing more flyers for saturday.
Saturday night i hit the club at 9am where i went into the ballroom to help the guys with the remaining set up and meet the entertainment team which we worked with that also have been used for nightclubs in ibiza and scissor sisters tour.
After this i helped one of the managers with the champagne reception and told i would be hosting the media VIP suite if any of them attended. Unfortunatly this plan did not work as the media didnt turn up, so i stuck with one of the managers as we walked round the club watching the entertainment going on and making sure everything was going to plan.
This week i learnt about the media in leeds and why they play a big part in the industry. I also learnt that you have to start preparing your club for an event as soon as possible and make sure everyone internally knows whats going on for things go to plan. Also, i learnt from the managers that you always need a back up plan incase plan A does not work, and what problems the tend to have on a night i.e dissaperaing staff and unsatisfied customers.
